Top 5 Places for a Night-Out in Malta

Malta’s night life is a strange mix of Irish pubs, typical Italian restaurants and clubs for those who are over 18 but under 21. The most famous bar-zone is Paceville, a small town near coastal St.Julians. If you have already been to Ibiza or Cyprus, you won’t be impressed much. Lots of tipsy girls in short skirts and leggings, weird cocktail names and thunderous music, that gives you no chance to talk to your friends. However, Malta could be a perfect country for a night-out, even for those who prefer pubs and small bars to dance clubs, like me. Enjoy my selection of places and don't hesitate to write me if you know what to add.

The Dubliner pub - Malta

St.Julian's

Draught beer, pub-grub, live sports and British English around you – that’s The Dubliner. The pub faces the bay and the embankment, so the area is very lively and nice. The Dubliner is a perfect place to start your night, having a pint of Guinness or Kilkenny. After two or three pints you are ready to go to Paceville. Now you love people, don’t mind somebody smoking right in your face and dancing on your feet. Or you can simply sit near the water and watch the world goes by.

Soho Lounge - Malta

Paceville

One of the best bars in Paceville and St.Julians, according to Tripadvisor. Cocktails are really great, and if you come early you can catch a “buy one get one free” card. People call the lounge “Malta’s own Soho” but you will hardly taste the atmosphere of London in Paceville. It’s a complete difference. Malta’s Soho is about latino and disco music, hot dancing and sex in the air. So…baila baila morena!

Luciano Restaurant - Malta

Valetta

Luciano serves nice Italian food and has a great selection of wines – both Italian and Maltese. It’s the only restaurant I’ve found in Valetta that has house wine (vino della casa). Every Thursday you can listen to live music in the yard – and the band is amazing! You won’t be disappointed if you cancel your decision to go to a bar and stay till late.

The Crow’s Nest - Malta

St.Julian’s

A small bar on a (more or less) quiet street of St.Julians. There you can try almost all of the local beers. Apart from beers, the bar serves cocktails, even Bloody Mary, which is hard to find in Malta (No tomato juice! Guys, how do you live without it?). Besides, the staff of The Crow’s Nest is always friendly and helpful.

The Compass - Malta

Sliema

The Compass is a typical Maltese street lounge with a big cocktail list, daily specials and snacks. At nights it turns into a perfect place for those who love smoking shisha and watching sports on a big screen. The cocktails are nicely made, especially Spritz.
